BCU Pro-Ag manager Matt Brennan presented local Nambucca Valley community organisations with nearly $4500 in donations at a barbecue held at Macksville Showground last Friday.
The community barbecue and presentation marked the appreciation of the people that made this year’s event possible, from the committee and sponsors to the volunteers.
“BCU Pro-Ag 2006 was very successful and despite five fewer sites than last year, the gate numbers were up on last year,” Mr Brennan said.
“Trading at the BCU Pro-Ag continues to excel and this year was one of the best years on record, 90 per cent of exhibitors had their best years, including the larger businesses selling farm equipment.
“This is my sixth year at Pro-Ag and my aim has always been to get more local businesses involved and we are slowly achieving this however, we still have a long way to go. But we are not going to give up.”
Mr Brennan said the two-day event benefits everyone in the region, especially in Macksville, from accommodation businesses to restaurants and other business houses.
“We continue to prove our commitment to the Nambucca Valley and that is why we have created the BCU Pro-Ag community donation.”
Banana Coast Credit Union has been the major sponsor for more than 25 years and has the naming rights to Pro-Ag.
“We have built a very strong relationship with the BCU over the years and I am sure this will continue in the years to come,” Mr Brennan said.
“To Max and Peggy Graham and the Talarm Bush Fire Brigade team, including Joe who manned the gates, you always provide a professional and efficient service and you have excelled yourselves again.
“To the Scouts Association thank you, this organisation is very professional and organised, they cleaned up and put out bins with no fuss.
“Charlie Barber does an outstanding job assisting the committee.” Talarm Bush Fire Brigade was presented with a cheque for $1391 and the Scouts received $608.
Mr Brennan also thanked showground president Paul Laverty for his assistance.
Other recipients of the donations included Bowraville CWA, Macksville and District Poultry Club, Nambucca Valley Early Childhood Intervention Program, Bowraville Community Pre-School, Macksville-Scotts Head Junior Surf Life Saving Club and the Frank Patridge VC Military Museum, which all received a donation of $250.
Nambucca District Rescue Squad and the Nambucca Valley Cancer Support Group both were presented cheques for $500.
