LOCAL Powerlifters Scott Peisley and father and daughter John and Sheree Myers recently competed in the National Open Powerlifting Championships at Newcastle.
Sheree was the first lifter on the platform competing in the 67.5kg division.
Lifts of 115kg (squat), 80kg (bench press) and 135kg (dead lift), gave her a total of 330kg and the open championship, a terrific achievement as Sheree is still a junior lifter.
Scott competed in the 60kg division and had lifts of 152.5kg (squat), 100kg (bench press) and 212.5kg (dead lift), just missing a lift of 225kg, for a 465kg total and second place.
Scott will compete at the World Juniors in South Africa next month.
At the same event last year he set a world record sub-junior dead lift of 221kg in the 56kg division.
John Myers competed in the 67.5kg division and had lifts of 215kg (squat), 125kg (bench press) and 247.5kg (dead lift) for a total of 587.5kg to win the open division. It was the third consecutive year John has won the 67.5kg division and his eighth open championship win in total. John will compete at the World Masters Championships in Palm Springs, USA, in a few months and hopes to equal or improve his second place finish last year. Scott and John would be happy to hear from any sponsors who would be able to assist them achieve their goals of competing at the world championships.
Scott and Sheree are currently away from Kempsey for study and work.
When back home they train at Paralympian Terry Giddy’s gym at Aldavilla as does John, four days a week.
All three would like to thank Terry for his great support and coaching advice.
